Hurricane Julia brushes Colombia island, heads for Nicaragua

Heading for Nicaragua and the rest of Central America, Hurricane Julia sweeps past Columbian Islands at a catastrophic 75mph speed. This unexpected hurricane is forcing those on the coast of Nicaragua to rush to prepare for the storm's arrival. Nicaraguan soldiers have been deployed to help evacuate inhabitants in Sandy Bay Sirpi and provide humanitarian supplies.

What's even more threatening than the severe winds, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center, is the heavy rainfall that can cause life-threatening flash floods and mudslides. Those who will be affected the most are in the poorer departments in the East, center, and West of the country.

The increased severity of climate change will lead to the increased severity of natural disasters and disproportionately affect marginalized civilians and those stuck with poverty.
