The war between Russia and Ukraine continues to intensify as Russia has attacked essential proponents of Ukraine’s energy grid. The attack is reported to be significant in scale, as areas that spread all across the entire country. It has been estimated that approximately one-third of Ukraine’s energy supplies were destroyed or damaged, and the attack led to over 1.5 million Ukrainian households being without power. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proclaimed that a total of 36 missiles were launched on Saturday, however many were shot down and caused no damage to their targets. Targeting the power and energy resources is part of Russia’s plan, which is to deprive Ukraine of as much power as possible going into the winter to bring the war to front-line areas. One crucial structure that Ukraine is afraid will be attacked is the Kakhovka hydropower plant. This would lead to hundreds of thousands of homes flooding. Russia has continued to deny a future attack on the hydro plant, but only time will tell if this is true or not.
