If enacted, the law would toughen the already existing regulations that criminalize LGBT education when it comes to children. The ban would allow censorship and block LGBT issues on the internet, in advertising and in books, among other things. Human rights activists say the extension means that any act or public mention of same-sex couples would face fines or even expulsion from the country for non-Russians. It is supposed to be part of a "hybrid war" against Western values.
