Hugo Chavez won reelection in Venezuela with 54% of the vote with 90% of the ballots counted. Opposition candidate Henrique Capriles received about 45% of the vote. Chavez claims to be the heir to Simon Bolivar who is viewed as a hero in the country. He also connects with the citizens due to humble roots and speeches. Despite the connections he has with the citizens there is a number who are upset with the lack of progress on fixing various issues such as violent crime, poor roads, blackouts and government corruption; the majority of the votes for the opposition came from such people.
