On Friday the European Union was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for promoting peace, democracy and human rights. The award is supposed to be a reminder of how the EU has transformed most of Europe from a war torn continent to a peaceful one according to the Nobel Committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland. The award is being seen as a moral boost because of the struggling economy. Many politicians, such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francios Hollande welcomed the award;some, such as the British government made no comment while many citizens of EU countries are viewing the award with skepticism and some even saying that the EU isn't worthy of the award at this time. The editor in chief of small Russian radio station Ekho Moskvy, which was among those nominated, said it was an honor to lose to the EU.
