Turkey Retaliates

Turkey has been retaliating against bombardment form northern Syria for the past five days. A shell launched from Syria landed in Turkish town Akcakale on Sunday, October 7th. There were no reports of casualties. Though, the shell did land several hundred meters form where five civilians were killed on Wednesday during a previous Syrian artillery fire. Three mortar bombs fired from Syria landed near the Turkish village of Guvecci. This action prompted retaliation fire from Turkey. Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan says that Turkey does not want war, but has warned Syria not to test Turkey’s resolve. Erdogan said in a speech on Sunday that:

"You have to be ready at every moment to go to war if it is necessary. If you are not ready for this, you are not a state. What did our forefathers say? 'If you want peace prepare for war' ... If you suffer an outrage, you will do what is necessary. Look, we are retaliating in kind. If you strike, you will see the retaliation immediately."
