Chuck Hagel, Defense Secretary for the United States, has come to the decision to send two warships to Japan in order to counter North Korean threats. He is also warning China to be more respectful to its neighbors. In recent, there have been disputes between China and Japan in regards of territory over islands in the East China Sea. Hagel compared the China- Japan dispute to the Russian and Ukrainian situation. He plans on traveling to China later this week in order to discuss a peaceful compromise for all the eastern Asian countries involved, without redrawing boundaries. As for the North Korean, they are claiming that their use of missiles are rehearsal in case of an invasion. The practice of these rehearsals have caused a lot of tension between Japan and North Korea because of the spike in threats to use missiles and nuclear tests. Hagel is clear in his message of keeping peace between nations and that he will not stand for intimidation.
Personally, I don't know if there will be any hope with coming to compromise with North Korea in the near future. They have not cooperated with anyone on "the other side" except Dennis Rodman. They want to intimidate others by showing off the weapons that they do have, but unlike the Melians who tried to convince the Athenians that others countries would get angry with them for the same reason, we will experience a different outcome. Others will get angry with N. Korea and if push comes to shove, allies will be formed and hostility may rise. As for China and Japan, let's hope that they do cooperate. Americans depend on both countries and both countries depend on the U.S.
