The issue this article encompasses simply is Israel's threats to Palestinian's decision to join the U.N. Israel says that there had been agreement that this appeal would not occur and that Palestine is breaching their word, but to counter Palestine said that Israel promised the release of long-serving prisoners. Israel counters yet again that Palestine also promised not to erect tenders for 700 new apartments. The banter back and forth continues, but it ultimately comes down a mistrust of each other, a slippery slope, and threats similar to the Melian Dialogue.
It seems the reason that each of the sides are defaulting on their word is because of the belief that the other will default as well, and due to this vicious cycle, each side feels that their actions are righteous. Israel threatens to block cellphone networking and deny development projects in the Gaza Strip. Just like the Athenians and the Melians, Israel is threatening the weaker community with that logic of abiding to the stronger power or default and risk many freedoms.
