It's not ALWAYS about politics...

President Obama, like so many Presidents before him, has now mastered the art of doing things under the radar and not letting the media get a hold of it (until after). The Commander in Chief made a surprise visit to Bagram Airfield base in Afghanistan early Sunday morning on this Memorial Day weekend not to meet with departing President Hamid Karzai but to simply...thank the troops. Of course, that is what Memorial Day is all about. To honor those who have served, are serving and will serve; whether they be fallen heroes or veterans. This weekend is about sacrifice and the President went on to thank the 3,000 troops in attendance for the sacrifices they've made; all in an effort to ensure that America will never be used as target for terrorism again.  This was a celebration, followed by a speech from the leader of the free world. Country singer Brad Paisley (who I'll be seeing this Saturday night) rode on Air Force One and performed for the troops for an hour before the speech.

This is the fourth time Obama has visited the country while in office and the questions facing the relations between the two nations are up in the air. The President did not travel to Kabul, the country’s capital. But he vowed that he would work with whoever wins the presidential runoff election scheduled for June 14: either Abdullah Abdullah or Ashraf Ghani.
