Mali Rebels Attack and Seize Hostages

In Bamako, Mali, Separatists Tuareg rebels launched an assault on the city of Kidal. This attack killed eight soldiers and they also rushed government buildings taking 30 hostages in a "declaration of war" on the government. The attack was prompted by the new Prime Minister Moussa Mara. The attack started on Saturday morning into the governor's office. Mara stayed in the government barracks and then left Kidal on Sunday for Gao. The fighting went on throughout the day killing eight soldiers and 25 were wounded. The Defense Ministry also said 28 assailants were killed and 62 wounded. They regained control over all the administrative buildings except the governor's office. They also don't know where the hostages are being held. Rachel Rodewald http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/19/world/africa/mali-rebels-attack-and-seize-hostages.html?ref=world
