Thai Prime Minister Ousted

A few days ago, the Prime Minister of Thailand, Yingluck Shinawata, was ordered by the court to step down from her position. This is a huge win for the anti-government opposition movement that has been pushing for this move for 6 months. The court order to step down was prompted by claims that she had abused her power by transferring a civil servant to another post more than three years ago. The current party in power, the red shirts, favored the more rural, less wealthy populations outside of Bangkok. The wealth-backed opposition, the yellow shirts, are armed and expected to react violently to the commerce minister being named the acting prime minister for the time being. He is disliked because of his ties to Shinawata's brother, who was not a favorite among the people when he was in power.
