Ukraine, Russia Near Deal on Gas Bill

Russia and Ukraine move closer to resolving their dispute over natural-gas prices. Moscow has threaten cutoff of supplies if deadline of Tuesday is not met. Moscow has been demanding that Kiev pay more than 3.5 billion in outstanding dues from February and March.

The two sides will continue negotiating natural-gas prices on Monday afternoon once the payment arrives. However, officials say Ukraine wired the money on Friday through New York to Moscow, which means Moscow will not see the payment till at least Monday. It also means that there is little time to negotiating once the payment is received. Ukraine's acting Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk stated that Monday's talks would "either end in the signing of an agreement or the filing of a lawsuit".
