Japan/China incident in South China Sea

Japan and China accused each other’s air forces of behaving dangerously yesterday in the South China Sea.  China said Japanese planes took dangerous actions during Chinese joint maritime exercise with Russia while Japan claims that Chinese air forces came within meters of its warplanes.  Japan went on into more detail to say that a Chinese SU-27 came within 50m of a Japanese OP-3C plane and within 30m of a YS-11EB plane.  Japan officials have said that this is an over the top way for China to handle the dispute.  China responded that Japan planes entered into a no fly zone despite notices and that China felt the need to respond because Japan should respect both the Chinese and Russian navies during their exercises. China also said, “…Japan will bear any and all consequences from this.”
