On Sunday May 25, 2014 voters handed Petro Poroshenko “chocolate
tycoon” a glorious victory in Ukraine’s presidential election. Poroshenko won
the election taking over 55 percent of the votes. Poroshenko will now have to address the
violence that is escalating in eastern Ukraine. Many cities across the east
have been occupied by pro-Russian separatists, who vowed to disrupt the vote
wherever possible. Pro-Russian separatists attacked polling places, one man was
killed and another was wounded in a skirmish near the town of Novoaidar,
Ukraine. With this step forward, maybe Ukraine has a brighter future ahead.
