A group of Portuguese children ranging ages from 5 to 18 are suing various member states of the EU for a failure to act sufficiently on climate change. The children cite worries over the increasing rate of heatwaves and forest fires in Portugal, and intend to ask the European Court of Human Rights to tell nations to enact (and enforce) stricter climate control policies and to stop mining fossil fuel reserves. 21 children are pursing a similar lawsuit against the Trump administration over his proposed actions to abandon the Paris Climate Accords, "unless there are significant changes to it". This US lawsuit states that inaction over climate change is in violation of their constitutional rights.
