Soldier's deaths in Africa brings light to American military power in the continent

  10/8/17
After the death of four US soldiers in the African country of Niger, questions are asked of what the US is doing in Africa. The article by Mac William Bishop describes the operations in Africa are run by AFRICOM (AFRIca COMmand) in conducting counter-terrorism, drone strikes, joint and training missions with American Allies in Africa. the command structure was set up in 2007 and has grown exponentially since then. The US is not conducting warfare of the sorts of Afghanistan or Iraq, but rather a more joint effort with the local governments to provide training and security for our allies and combat terrorist groups across the continent; such as Boko Haram, ISIS, Al-Qaeda elements, and Al-Shabaab. The US is capable of employing forces across the continent with relative ease. This goes to show the idea of American Unipolarity and Hegemony in action as the US offers to the area security and joint cooperation in return for agreeing with what we do and believe.
