Chinese Officials Accuse the U.S. of Flying a Balloon Over Chinese Airspace

China has recently accused the United States of flying a balloon across Chinese airspace. As tensions rise after the United States shot down a Chinese balloon off the coast of South Carolina last week, China claims the United States has flown a high altitude balloon over China’s airspace on Sunday, February 12th. China has also claimed that there have been ten incidents of the U.S. flying balloons over the country since January 2022. The state run news outlet, “The Paper” claims that Chinese officials were ready to shoot the balloon down and warned fishermen in the area about falling debris and asking them to help in the recovery effort if conditions allowed. This leads to increased tensions as both sides continue to blame each other on the flying of aircraft over both nations airspace. As of today, February 13th the Chinese government has not provided any updates if the balloon has been shot down or not. CNN reports that the citizens of China are waiting for the aircraft to be shot down and it is trending on several sites in China.
