This Article by Prof. Mearsheimer has presented a strong and compelling argument about how the West is responsible for the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Prof Mearsheimer has presented the arguments of conventional wisdom that demonise Putin and works on Russophobia to put the blame of the conflict solely on Russia. He has brilliantly tackled all the arguments of conventional wisdom by putting forward rational arguments in favour of the strategic importance of Ukraine to Russia as compared to the West and how the NATO expansion to Ukraine is an imminent security threat to Russia. Instead of redressing Russia's concern, the West has taken on a course of action to economically weaken Russia through reducing reliance on its energy exports and other economic sanctions. But economic measures will not deter Russia because it sees NATO expansion as an existential crisis.

Prof. Mearsheimer has also given an eye-opening example that if China plans to make a military coalition with Canada and Mexico, allowing China to have a strategic military presence in the Western Hemisphere, the US wouldn't like that either and would respond on the lines of Russia in the Ukrainian Context.
