Why Philippines Is Letting the U.S, Expand It's Military Footprint in the Country Again

Previously, the Philippines has advocated shrinking the presence of the United States military; as it represents American colonialism to Filipino natives. Yet, amongst increasing tensions with China, the U.S. and Filipino governments have announced the creation of four new military bases for the island. The United States already has five operating bases, but the number is now increasing to nine. This reminds me of our class discussion where we mentioned the U.S. General who expects global conflict between the United States and China within two years. In my opinion, this expanding military action reflects the tensions that the General we discussed warned us about.
