On July 7, 2021, Haiti's President, Jovenel Moise, was shot dead in his home. According to the police, it was "a hit squad of mainly foreign mercenaries." Of the four suspects, three are US-Haitian citizens (by dual citizenship), and the other is Colombian; they are to appear in a federal court in Miami. However, the investigation into the murder itself has been stalled due to death threats posed upon investigators and judges. Still, the court proceedings are scheduled in the US because it is alleged that Haitian-Americans in Florida created the assassination plan.
