David Rivera (R-FL), a one term former congressman from the Miami area has been arrested on charges of representing a foreign government without registering and money laundering. The charges are related to a consulting contract that Rivera has with the Venezuelan government. The charges allege that at the beginning of the Trump Administration , Rivera began lobbying on behalf of the Venezuelan government to attempt to ease tensions with between it and the US's government, to resolve a dispute with an U.S oil company, and to retract sanctions that the U.S has placed on Venezuela without registering as a foreign agent.
