5-year-old Girl Rape Draws Public Uproar on Child Assault in India.

Indian public has been in shock since last week after a 5-year-old girl was raped, tortured and almost killed. The little girl was abducted and assulted by Manoj, the guy who lived on the same apartment floor with her family. Candles and part of a bottle were inserted to her body that led to a blood infection. Even though she is out of critical condition now, further surgery has to be taken. The suspect was arrested and will appear in court on Monday. However, her parents said that the police offered them 2,000 rupes (equivalent of 37 USD) to keep quiet about the case. A report by Asian Center for Human Rights released on Saturday gives the alarming figure of sexual assault against children in India, which more than tripled over the period since 2001 to 2011. Hundreds of protesters occupied outside of the Police Headquarters in New Dehli on Saturday and Sunday to demand for the regisnation of the city's top police official as they complained about the goverment and the police's insufficient efforts to prevent sexual crimes.
