The Syrian president, Bashar Assad, may be having his regime use chemical weapons against rebels who oppose him. The United States has recently found this out and it would like to avoid putting any troops in Syria, but Obama has said that the use of chemical weapons would be an action severe enough to warrant the United States sending in troops. The chemical weapon is likely to be sarin, a "deadly nerve agent." Obama is waiting for more proof before he makes any decision about sending US troops to Syria, and has not made any public decisions about the matter.
