UN Votes to Establish Peacekeeping Force for Mali

Today, the UN in a unanimous vote decided to send troops to Mali in an effort to stabilize the country. The primary goal of the UN troops is to act as peacekeepers and part of the resolution requires that the French army remain low-key. However, Russia is not so supportive of this move. Russian envoy Vitaly Churkin believes the UN is beginning to take more aggressive acts and straying from the traditional role of monitoring cease fires. This resolution also includes that some African countries will be be undergoing military and human rights training before taking on the role of peacekeeper.
