Families and friends of the victims of the Newtown, Connecticut, elementary school shooting were extremely saddened by the Senate vote on the gun control bill not to support background checks for gun sales. These families, along with many other Americans, had anticipated the vote, which comes merely months after the shooting killed twenty-six students and teachers, to pass despite differences between Democrats and Republicans. The families, along with a big part of the American public, were especially shocked because the vote took place so shortly after the Boston Marathon Bombing on Monday. A group of people from Newtown had biked from their town to Washington to raise awareness of their supporting the bill, and they said that "ninety percent of Americans they met along the way also supported the bill."
