Brazil Police Sentencing on Prison Riots

This article is about the Carandiru jail massacre in 1992 where 23 police officers were convicted of killing 13 inmates. The trail of the officers has taken a large amount of time which has greatly shocked the public. The officers are being accused of violently breaking up a jail riot that began between two rival gangs. The inmates that were killed showed signs of being shot at close range. The police, most retired, are going to appeal saying that everything was under self-defense. Prison riots are not uncommon in Brazil however, this event has gained much attention from the public.
