The US Supreme Court has ruled in opposition of the Alien Tort Act to defend the human rights of Nigerian citizens who have been abused by the Royal Dutch Petroleum Co. In the past the Alien Tort Act of 1785 has enabled the US court to try human rights abusers for violating international law. Since the rule to this law has been obscure, the Supreme Court justices have decided that the law will now be limited exclusively to American citizens and human rights violations committed on US soil.
