Colombian Rebels Agree to Ceasefire

Colombia's largest active rebel group, the National Liberation Army (ELN) has agreed to a ceasefire from now until January to allow for negotiations.  The ELN has promised to not take any hostages (the ransom for whom is their primary funding), plant mines, or recruit minors, while the government has promised to improve prison conditions for rebels already captured.

The peace talks, scheduled to start on October 23rd in neutral Ecuador, will be the next major step (after the peace agreement with the FARC rebel group) toward ending the five-decade civil war in Colombia.  Hopefully both sides can come to a mutually beneficial agreement.
