Syria and Civil War

http://www.aljazeera.com/news/europe/2012/10/2012105179047518.html

This article talked about how Turkey fired shells back at Syria after shells from Syria have left 5 dead in Turkey. Turkey's Parliament also allowed for Turkish military to cross the border into Syria for military operations. Syria officially apologized for the shell that went into Turkey, but only after some time.

The civil war in Syria at this point is believed to have killed over 30,000 people. Recently, the regime in Syria has launched a barrage of missiles at rebel-controlled territory. The UN has condemned the shelling of a Turkish town, and even Russia has spoken against the action, even though not as strongly as Western nations. I think this is huge because it is things like that which cause small, isolated conflicts to escalade into large-scale war, especially because Turkey is a member of NATO. Also, there are no signs that the civil war in Syria will come to a close.
