From Russia With Internet Censorship

It appears that China isn't the only nation that's become very concerned about the information that people can access.  In what appears to be an effort to prevent information deemed dangerous from spreading, Russia has been stepping up its efforts to enforce firewalls and filters on internet access.  What had previously been sporadic attempts to enforce internet censorship on a regional basis, late last year Russia passed a bill to set national standards for censorship.

As noted in the article, the motivation for this push to standardize appears to be the Arab Spring.  Whereas information such as bomb making was considered the primary threat due to rebellion in Chechnya, it seems that the new threat may be more political in nature.
