I stumbled across Ziyah Gafić, a Bosnian photographer, who has traveled all over the world capturing amazing photos of damaged countries. Below begins a series of photos that document places such as Bosnia, Palestine, Chechnya and Afghanistan. That is a really neat page. It seems that the double-photograph view is designed for contrast, which makes it far more powerful. I appreciate how many photos focus on contrast over shock and victim-hood.
