Protesters in Spain call for end to mornarchy
Thousands of people demonstrated on the streets of Madrid on Sunday as the country celebrates the 82nd anniversary of the establishment of Spain's republic, against the Spanish mornarchy. They demanded the return of a democratically-elected head of state to replace the system currently run by King Juan Carlos who succeeded after 36-year-military-dictator General Francisco Franco. The mornarchy's popularity has slumped rapidly, especially when Spain's economy is dragging through a strenuous downturn period.
Criticism broke out and has increased rapidly after the king going on a luxirious safari trip in Bostwana when his people was enduring the financial crisis with skyrocketted unemployment. In addition to that, his daughter - Princess Cristina - was allegedly planning a public money embezzlement; and the Princess's husband took advantage of their royal connections to funnel 5 million euros in public funds.
