The U.S is asking China to use its leverage to stop North Korea making the threats towards the U.S and South Korea. Earlier a U.S congressman leaked some details saying that North Korea could fire a nuclear-armed missile, although with low reliability. A pentagon spokesman said that it is inaccurate to say that the North Korean regime has a fully tested and developed nuclear capability. It continues to say that although North Korea has carried out nuclear tests, it is unlikely that they have the ability to make the weapons small enough to fit in a ballistic missile. Pyongyang has moved ballistic missiles, thought to be able to travel roughly 4000km, to its east coast. A senior administrator told reporters that it is no secret that China has the most leverage over North Korea and that China should use it.  Obama has urged Pyongyang to end its “belligerent approach, and to try to lower temperatures”. Obama also said that he would prefer this situation to be settled through diplomatic means, but the US “will take all necessary actions to protect its people”. I agree with this article in the fact that China should use their leverage over North Korea in order for them to stop threatening both the US and South Korea. I think North Korea would be more willing and would have more to lose if China stepped in simply because they trade and do so much with them.
