One of the roles of a super power is to set an example that it wants other states to follow; undermining efforts of an international body that it seems to want accepted by other states is not the way to do this. Yet, instead of attempting to push for change and add information to balance out negotiations, the U.S.A. boycotted a United Nations justice meeting and encouraged others to follow when the Serbian president began questioning the impartiality of international war tribunals. Groups that would have offered an opposing argument to that of the Serbian president were denied voice by the head of the U.N. General Assembly. While the one-sideness of the meeting is appalling, walking away is unlikely to change anything; what is needed is a response to actively push for fairness and call out those that seem to remove balance from the system - walking away may encourage others to notice a problem, but in no way works toward a solution.
