Tense US Relations with Germany Continue

Yesterday Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Obama met to discuss the tension between the US and Germany. Last October, it was revealed that the United States' NSA had tapped Merkel's phone and had been spying on her. Germans were outraged, and the incident botched relations with the United States. Yesterday Obama was unfortunately overly optimistic. He declared he considered Merkel "one of his closest friends on the international stage," but Merkel responded that it was too soon to think like that. Merkel argued that the US had signed a no-spy agreement with the US, something Obama fervently denied. The US will have to work hard to restore Germany's faith in our country. The tense relations, however, will not stop the US and Germany from uniting on behalf of Ukraine, in case Russia decides to interrupt Ukraine's upcoming elections.
