Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is on a three country tour of West Africa, one of which includes Niger, the world's fourth largest uranium producer. The Iranian President is said to be discussing education, agriculture, and energy in each country as a means to strengthen ties and cooperation between Iran, Niger, Benin, and Ghana. Iran is on the receiving end of UN sanctions for the nuclear program in Tehran, which Iran refuses to put an end to. On Tuesday, Iran revealed a new uranium facility. Ahmadinejad's trip to Niger is troubling to opponents and the UN, especially because Niger is looking to earn more profits off of its uranium ore. The country has an agreement with France, a remnant of colonization, that prevents Niger earning as much as it could.
