British foreign secretary calls for calm amid tensions

A British foreign secretary, William Hague called for “calm over the North Korean crisis”. He said despite the “paranoid rhetoric” from Pyongyang, it important to remain “firm and united” warning of the dangers of “miscalculations” by North Korea. Since North Korea was sanctioned by the UN in march for carrying out a third nuclear test, Pyongyang has threatened nuclear strikes on the US, declared war on South Korea, and also said they are going to reopen a nuclear reactor. The South Korean top military official was meant to meet with his US equivalent in Washington but has postponed the trip because U.S and South Korea want “to maintain a firm defense readiness amid the current security situation”.
Switzerland has offered to mediate with North Korea, but the Swiss foreign ministry has said that North Korea has not responded with any plans to talk. Switzerland would be a good country to mediate with North Korea because they are known as being a neutral country and also that it is believed that Kim Jong-un was educated for several years in Switzerland.
Mr. Hague said that North Korean leaders were making the wrong choice and said that “they will end up leading a broken, friendless country”, I agree with this statement that he has made, North Korea’s only ally and main trading partner is China, but if they continue to make threats of using nuclear weapons they will lose the connections between the them, which leads to the question will North Korea be able to supple enough resources for themselves, or will they be force to comply to the UN.
North Korea stated that they were unable to guarantee the safety of foreign embassy staff in the event of a war but Mr. Hague said that they have seen no need for immediate actions by removing their diplomats. He continues to say that this is just a country tying to justify its militarization of their society. This is all a good example of the importance of international relations and perhaps the best way to deal with this issue is by china stepping in and refusing to deal with North Korea anymore. North Korea is almost seen as a country who is trying to make their mark, and now that they have started, Kim Jung-un is unable to back down because he will be seen as weak towards his own people.
