Iraqi refugees in Syria feel new strains of war

Because of Iraq’s civil war in 2006 and 2009, almost 2 million Iraqi refugees fled to Syria to seek refuge. These people escaped Iraq because of the violence and religious persecution, yet these refugees have fallen victim to the same issues in Syria. Today, the Iraqi people are caught between two dilemmas: they do not know if they should move back to a war town Iraq or endure the current conflicts in Syria. In Syria, the people from Iraq have not been allowed to work. This lack of income has made it difficult for the Iraqi people to make a decision to escape the recent violence. Consequently, many of these have not made enough money to leave the country or move out of refugee neighborhoods. The neighborhoods have only perpetuated the sectarian feeling many Iraqi’s possess which they have tried to escape by fleeing to Syria.
