Myanmar Communal Unrest Threatens Reforms
During Obama's first term the U.S. began a military engagement in Myanmar in an attempt to bring the country to Democracy. For a time it seemed to be working, but recent events have shown that this reform may not come as easily as expected. However, in the past few weeks this has not been the case. Conflicts between Buddhists and Muslims have arisen, refugees are fleeing, and the country still has some ties to North Korea. This is a great example of the process that leads to democratic peace. It shows the support that is needed in order for a country to reach democracy, along with the struggles that come with a shift in government.
