The infamous drug lord, Joaquin Guzman "Al Chapo" has been arrested today in a Mexican beach resort. After escaping a prison in 2001 in a laundry bin, Al Chapo has been MIA since his escape. He has been indicted on charged of marijuana, cocaine, and heroin distribution, conspiracy to commit murder, racketeering, money laundering and kidnapping. Both Mexican authorities and the United States authorities tirelessly looked for Al Chapo's cartel, but did not have luck in finding him until recently. It has been a constant struggle in the past to arrest Al Chapo because of his ties to government officials. They were able to find him with phone records and other information to pinpoint his location. Throughout his reign, Al Chapo's cartel stretched from Mexico to Chicago. Chicago had named Al Chapo as "Public Enemy Number One", a name formerly given to Al Capone. By arresting Al Chapo, a large portion of the drug industry in North America was decreased and it is a step forward for both the United States and Mexico.
