Obama soliciting new policy options for Syria from top aides as peace talks flounder

President Obama is looking to his cabinet for new policy options on the topic of Syria. Secretary of State John Kerry spoke of the worsening crisis in the area and implored officials to act. The Defense Department has discussed military options in the event of a surge but declined to elaborate on the specifics. State Department spokeswoman Marie Herf said, "Clearly, diplomacy hasn't gotten us where we need to be yet, but remains the right approach". The US is trying to urge the United Nations Security Council to pass a resolution that would increase humanitarian aid to Syria. However, there are no penalties outlined in the resolution if the Syrian government refuses to comply. Whispers that Russia has stayed silent in the wake of the Olympic games add fuel to the ever complicated fire.  Regardless, the situation in Syria remains one of the biggest humanitarian crises of the past decade. The US is seeking to not act alone in their endeavors to help the situation.
