The Afghan government will soon be receiving $1 billion dollars in aid from the U.S., but a new inspector general report claims that that money is at a large risk of corruption and waste. Aid to Afghanistan symbolizes the shift in American foreign policy with Afghanistan, as the U.S slowly is starting to pull its troops from the country. Afghanistan is rated by Transparency International, an international anti-corruption agency, as one of the three most corrupt countries in the world, slightly behind North Korea and Somalia. The fear is that a lot of that money will end up being siphoned off into Afghan officials pockets. This whole situation is very interesting. As the United States continuously gives countries "aid" money to countries that either 1) hate us or 2) are known to be highly corrupt. I for one am tired of seeing my tax money going to places that clearly do not deserve it.
