China sanctioned by Google

Google has taken the step of directly sanctioning the Chinese state by severely reducing the ability of Chinese webpages to reach a global audience. The Chinese government controlled certificate authority CNNIC has been removed from the list of trusted certificate authorities in Google's web browser Google Chrome; which will now alert users that webpages authenticated through CNNIC are untrustworthy and could be used to spy on individual users. This comes as a response to a supposed incident of online espionage where a group under the CNNIC attempted to gather data on individuals using a fake Google certificate. The problem for China is that now all users of Google Chrome across the world will be alerted to stay away from Chinese Websites which will deal a significant blow to online commerce conducted between Chinese businesses and foreign consumers as those consumers will be vastly reduced in number due to the warning posted by Google.
