Assad in surprise visit to Moscow

Syria's president Bashar Al-assad visits Moscow to meet with Putin.

The meeting was held on Tuesday, but was not announced until this morning. President Al-assad thanked Putin for launching the air strikes in Syria against the Islamic State. He also stated that since Putin had become involved in the matter, Syria has made great strides towards resolving matters. Great strides? No offense, President Al-assad, but when 11 million have had to leave their homes on top of the 25,000 Syrians who have been killed and the 1 million injured... there are no strides being made. None whatsoever!

"Terrorism is a 'real obstacle to a political solution', " said Mr. Assad, "and of course the whole (Syrian) people want to take part in deciding the fate of their state, and not just the leadership."

No kidding Mr. Assad. No kidding. However, when the Syrian people want to take part in deciding the fate of their state, they are not allowed and instead are simply attacked. So for Mr. Putin to praise Syrians and advice them to "keep resisting, keep fighting...you have 'suffered' serious losses, but have recently achieved 'serious' results..." is absolutely cynical.

The meeting concluded with Mr. Putin thanking Mr. Assad for trusting him and Russia, along with Mr. Assad thanking Mr. Putin for the standing next to Syria and supporting Syria's unity and independence. "Had Mr. Putin, not intervened. the situation in Syria would be more tragic.
