As violence escalates in the disputed Holy Land, President Obama has denounced the violence and is calling for a "two-state solution," or for Israel to give up land to the refugees in the West Bank and Palestine. In the past few weeks, eight Israelis have been killed in thirty attacks and, according to the Palestinians, thirty Palestinians have been killed in retaliatory attacks.
Meanwhile, the President commended Park Geun-hye, the president of South Korea, for her efforts at reunification with North Korea. The two countries have technically been at war since 1950, and have been close to going to full-blown war in recent years. The President said he would never accept a "nuclear North Korea" and praised efforts from the South to reunify the long-divided nation.
I am afraid the President has ignored the fact the North Korea is, in fact, a nuclear power and that this ignorance will lead to higher tensions between the Korean peninsula and a greater threat to Western nations. As for the violence in the Holy Land, I think the President needs to remember the urgency of the Israelis, as they are threatened daily by radical fundamentalists, some of whom are supported by a soon-to-be nuclear Iran. But, that is just my opinion.
