Catholic bishops at synod call for a more welcoming church, Chicago Tribune, October 24.

The Catholic Church has finally opened the door for discussion to subjects that have been vetoed for many years. I believe that the Catholic Church is one of the most important organizations in the world. However, the automatic removal of persons who are divorced or identify as homosexuals is becoming more and more detrimental to the Catholic Church if the Catholic Church intends to continue to grow its members throughout the world. I believe that the Catholic Church’s lengthy battle with divorced and homosexual individuals is causing the Catholic Church to lose many members. The proliferation of new segments of Christianity is here to stay in the modern world. Accordingly, the Catholic Church needs to understand and empathize with these new segments. Most importantly, the Catholic Church needs to become more approachable to these diverse segments of Christianity by offering teachings that are more consistent with addressing a more diverse and multicultural demographic.
