South China Sea: Duterte orders Philippines military to occupy islands

Due to rising tension between the U.S. and the Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has been more open to China occupying more of the islands owned by the Philippines. This is a problem because the Chinese government is taking sandbars and creating islands to store weapons and military equipment. By having a better relationship with China the Philippines have successfully found a peaceful resolution to the Scarborough Shoal standoff. President Trump will have a chance to discuss this issue with President Xi Jinping this upcoming thursday.
