President Obama has made the decision to fully withdraw from Iraq by the end of January, contrary to the belief that we would be remaining past the withdrawal deadline. This is no doubt wonderful news for soldiers and their families, and also for our government. However, this decision was made based on the fact that Iraq's parliament is not secure enough for American soldiers who would remain in Iraq to receive immunity from the judicial system there. Becca Feddor. Although the article points out that "regardless of whether U.S. troops are here or not, there will be a massive American diplomatic presence," there are still going to be major consequences when America does fully withdraw. The instability that still persists in the government is of major concern, and like the article says, if this instability prompts Iraqis to call American troops back into their country, they might not comply if the parliament does not grant them immunity. While many of us are reassured by this statement to withdraw, it is of utmost importance that we keep the consequences in mind as well.
