Women in Zimbabwe charged with sexual assault

Three women in Zimbabwe have been charged for having discovered in their possession thirty-three condoms, containing male semen. The women are also charged in seventeen accounts of aggravated indecent assault, which may be connected to a string of attacks going on for two years in which male hitch hikers are targeted. The seventeen men that came forward shortly after the three women were arrested all confirmed that the latter raped them either in 2010 or 2011. Professor of Sociology in the University of Zimbabwe, Watch Ruparanganda, claimed that male semen is often used in tribal rituals and gatherings. In parts of society, male semen can also be seen as some form of antidote for the"regeneration of life", thus can serve as an explanation as to why the men were forced. The women will be held in police custody until their next trial appearance, set for October 28th.

The three women indentified are:

Rosemary Chakwizira, age 24
Sophie Nhokwara, age 26
Netsai Nhokwara, age 24
