Ukraine’s Tymoshenko Jailed for Seven Years

One of Ukraine's most popular and powerful politicians, Yulia Tymoshenko was sentenced on Tuesday to 7 years in prison, which was the maximum sentence. This sentencing could end the country's short attempt at democracy. She was being charged with harming her country's interests when she made negotiations with Russia in 2009 over prices for natural gas. This outcome will most likely put a stop to the country's integration into western Europe. Many people are saying that her imprisonment will jeopardize Ukraine's free trade and also will have profound implications for the relationship between the European Union and Ukraine. People are interested to see how western Europe reacts to this imprisonment, saying that it might shut out the entire country altogether.
